What a fun time we had learning about doctors and how to take care of our bodies! This week in the dramatic play area we set up a doctor's office. We had a doctor kit, check up sheets, computer keyboard to send in the medication to the pharmacist, a waiting room, doctor clothes, hair nets and stethoscopes, During the week we discussed what a doctor does and the tools they use to help patients, played a food/exercise lotto game, placed bones and organs on wooden people and pictures, matched organs and skeletons on the easel and on a chart, used heart cookie cutters with play-doh and bones and much more. It was fun to make doctor kits and and paint using these doctor items. In addition we used syringes (pipettes) to paint and make neat colors. We also discussed what was inside our bodies such as lungs, a heart, bones, muscles, stomach, brain, etc. The hippos practiced letters and letter sounds as they pulled out a letter from a doctor kit. The student then covered the letter with a bandaid. The students signed in to which they liked best, a doctor or a dentist. We then counted and compared the numbers. (goals: following directions, fine motor, letters, letter sounds, showing respect, taking turns, resolving conflicts when they arise, comparing numbers, recognizing numbers, answering questions)
During large group time we played a game in which we sorted pictures based on the healthy ways to care for ourselves (sleep, dental health, exercise, safety at crosswalk, safety by using helmets, drinking water, eating healthy foods). We also did exercises to strengthen our muscles and help our hearts. During gym, we did yoga poses. (goals: gross motor, following directions, sorting, respecting others, listening behaviors)

Dates to Remember:
Monday, May 18th-Wear pajamas to school day
Thursday, May 21st -Field Day at school, please put sunscreen and bug spray on our child before school.
Tuesday, May 26th -Party at the park! 9:45-11:15 or however long you'd like to stay!
We will meet at Hunter Park/Crystal Lake Park at 2301 Putter Lane at 9:30. We will not be at LECC beforehand. An adult must stay with your child for the entire duration of our party. I found out there is a water pad there, so your child can wear a swim suit under their clothes or bring one to change into. We are not sure if it will be turned on and running when we arrive. Make sure your child uses the bathroom before you come to the park because there are no bathrooms.
Wednesday, May 27th -This will be our rain date if we have to cancel Tuesday's day at the park. If not, Wednesday will be a regular school day.
