Rockin' with Robots Continues!

We had another great week with robots! We continued strengthening our fine motor muscles by using pipettes, sorting screws into funnels, using grabbers, putting together robot puzzles, patterning robots, creating with play-doh, making robots out of snap bots, transforming alphabots, painting robots on foil, using magnets and screws to paint and building with little legos!  Our letter this week was Z for zebra. We went over the sound and thought of things that start with the letter Z.  Our hippos practiced numbers with our robot race game, measure the robot game and robot coverall!  In addition, we used the spinner to name shapes and make a robot out of the shapes. (goals: shapes, following directions, respectful behaviors, taking turns, using words to solve conflicts, number recognition, counting, answering questions about our stories, fine motor, gross motor, letter recognition and sound, making decisions independently)

The students voted on their favorite robot book and Beep, Beep-Go To Sleep was the winner!  This gave us the opportunity to recall the books and to compare numbers.  Another favorite included playing the Rock'em Sock'em Robots game!  We enjoyed MIP, the dancing robot, again! During gym, we did robot a  song to the tune of the Wheels On The Bus song.  To end the week we named our large robot we made out of recycled materials and listed his special powers!! Each child named what special power our robot had.  (goals: taking turns, comparing numbers, recognizing numbers, following 2 step directions, voice volume, confident behavior)

During our 2nd Steps lesson we learned about ways to join a play situation. We can first stand by the kids we would like to play with, then we can offer an idea, then we can ask them if we can play together.

Next week:
We will dive into the rainforest!

Books We Read:
Otto
Beep, Beep - Go to Sleep
Boy + Bot
My Magnificent Thing

Questions to Ask Your Child:
1. What is the Z sound and what begins with the letter Z?
2. How did we move the screws when we painted? (with a magnet wand)
3. In the story, Beep, Beep-Go To Sleep, how did the robots put the boy to sleep? (they read him books)
4. What did you build with the little legos?
5. What was your favorite robot activity?
6. What color was MIP's belly when he would whistle? (yellow)

Things to do at home:
Continue creating robots or other things at home with recycled materials!  When finished have the children talk about their creations!

Enjoy the pictures below!  We enjoy our hippos!!

Look at the robot we made with different sized pipes!

We practiced putting together the letter y on
foil with q-tips.

Ms. Melissa subbed for me Monday and enjoyed playing
Rock'en Sock'em Robots with the kids!

Each child had a chance to spin the spinner and add that shape to our robot.

Here was the start of the robot.

The class voted on how many eyes we should
give the robot.

Matching keys to locks!

The hippos traced then colored robots with Ms. Brie!

Robot puzzles!

How many unifix cubes tall are the robots?

Continued fun in the sensory table filled with items and magnet wands.

We used a variety of materials to make robots!

Look at this robot!

Here we matched the robots!

Here is our robot vote on how many eyes we
should put on our shape robot.

We re-enacted what happened during the solar eclipse.
The flashlight was the sun and we used a white circle to resemble the moon. As
it moved in front of the sun the Earth became dark.

We continued to make robots with screws, pipe cleaners,
goolgy eyes and paper clips with playdoh.

Robot cover up with numbers 11-16.

What rhymes with Boy and Bot?

We traced our hands!

We used screws and bolts to match the numbers on the
robots!

We loved Dino O'Dell!

After reading Boy + Bot, we used pipettes,
food coloring and cotton squares to resemble oil.

We experimented with which screws, bolts, etc. would
fit in the funnels to fill the robot up.

Robot arms picking up items!

We were asked to make a pretty spring flower for our school bulletin
board! We cut petals to make a colorful flower.

Working together to make a home for our finger puppets!

Everyone loves to paint using watercolors!

It was fun to play the probability game with our
sub, Ms. Alison.

Race to 20 game!

During group time we placed stickers on the robot by
naming the letter or finding the letter or giving it's sound
or thinking of words that begin with that letter.

Painting paper with screws by moving them with
a magnet wand under the container!

Ms. Brie called the students over to paint a robot or
other things on foil!

Sit and spins spin like gears of a robot!

We patterned using shape blocks!

Each student came up with a special power for our
Hippo robot!!
